I have no problem with offering your local LEO a chance to opine on why you shouldn't have an MG or grenade launcher, as long as he's able to point out specific facts. If someone has a clean record, but is known to be a major drug dealer and the indictment is just weeks away, then maybe the Sheriff can stop it. But just because he doesn't like NFA toys would not be enough.

But otherwise, as I noted, the check is superfluous.
- We know he's the CLEO for your area.
- We know that PA allows all NFA except bombs.
-We know that you have a clean record.
We don't need the local CLEO for any of that, and the fact that he can veto your acquisition simply by sitting on his hands is absurd.

Fairness would turn the optional signoff into a call from ATF asking if he has any sufficient reason to stop the transfer. Until then, I'll keep creating LLC's and corps for people, and we can leave the CLEO in the dark.
