Here's something I forgot to mention... the salesclerk asked me if I was purchasing ammunition for a rifle or handgun (thanks to my Kel-Tec Sub-2000, I was able to say "rifle" with a straight face). Does anyone know why they feel compelled to do that? Would my answer have changed the process any? I even (politely) asked the clerk why she was asking. She didn't know!

That's because to purchase handgun ammo you have to be 21 or over. To purchase rifle/shotgun ammo you only have to be 18. Seems silly to me, because a lot of "rifle" ammo out there is ALSO used in some handguns (especially .22's) How are any clerks supposed to know if the "rifle" ammo they are selling is actually going to be used for a handgun? They DON'T!
