A "clip" is something like a stripper clip. Or an M1 Garand 8rd clip. They don't lock into the firearm whereas a magazine does. Also clips could be along the lines of the rapid fire cannon slide blocks which hold the rounds together while they are fed into the action. When a clip is fed through the weapon it is generally ejected clearing the way for the insertion of another. Again, magazines lock into the firearm and have to be ejected by an action taken by the operator.
