I am new to this forum, so let me first say hello! I am glad to hear that you got out of the situation unharmed and without incident. While I completely agree with the others about the justification of firing if the consequences warranted action, you WOULD have taken on charges. More importantly, as mentioned earlier, was the fact that you had the gun safely tucked away, making it difficult if not impossible to deploy. One thing we try to teach our students when it comes to weapons is 1) deployment of your weapon is vital to its use, and 2) when you can avoid a situation, then do so. When we teach disarms, we also teach escapes, just to avoid the legal tangles such a situation might incur. A friend of mine is currently being sued by the guy who attacked him! Such is the American legal system at times!
