Basically the lower one is an earlier model. The No1 MK3 and used by a few other designations. The top pic is the No4 MK1 or MK2, it is a later model. Roughly you could say WW1 was the bottom one and WW2 was the top one, for the Brits at least. This is just to give you a rough idea, alot more history with them. Check out these links.
