My opinion differs. I shoot 200 - 300 rounds a week. I consider myself relatively proficient at the range. I've taken some training course and even shot IDPA years ago (looking to get back into it). In a SHTF situation, between tunnel vision, BAR etc. it's insurance to me that "see red dot - bullet go where red dot is" is what I need to think about. I also believe that it aids in accuracy to the point that it reduces the chance of a miss hitting an innocent. I don't buy in to the "just seeing a laser trained on you could prevent a shooting". Maybe its true, and I haven't lived it yet, but my thinking is that if it comes down to drawing my weapon to defend myself or family, things are happening so fast and so out of control, the decision to shoot has already been made before my weapon clears the holster.
