1) I hope that this is not a carry / duty handgun that you are modifying. If so then IMO you are simply asking for a law suit should you ever be unfortunate enough to ever have to use this handgun to defend yourself or loved ones.

2) I have owned and shot an XD-45 Service model since a couple months after it was released by Springfield and have never had a single problem. More importantly I have spoken with dozens of other XD owners and stay pretty current on the posts on xdtalk.com and I have not heard of a single extractor issue with the XD.

3) Springfield is not unique in their service policy. Just have your friend sent them the handgun. They will fix it at no charge and guarantee the work. Period.

Good luck with the XD.

Even if it was a carry gun, there's no difference between getting a trigger job done on your 1911 than getting one done on your XD. When all the safeties are intact and the trigger pull weight has not been affected, there's no existing case law where someone has been found guilty or been on the losing side of a lawsuit for using a firearm with a trigger job. That's no different than saying I'd be liable to face a lawsuit for upgrading to a match grade barrel in a carry firearm or putting on aftermarket TFO night sights to improve visibility during daytime and low light conditions...I don't buy it.

Also, I counted three points, not 2.
