If your heart is set on a Mossberg, I'd get a 590. Lots of Mossberg fans out there. I dislike how cheap the Mossberg feels in your hands. If you hold it up to a Remington 870, you will feel a huge difference. There are plenty of aftermarket goodies for Mossbergs.
Most current shotguns can be adjusted to fit optics. You thinking red dot or scope? If you get optics, make sure that the unit will survive the recoil of a 12ga.
