we can give each other "rep points" using the little "scale" icon in the upper right corner of each post.

the little green boxes indicate how much "rep" you have been given...and i think you maybe get some for having a certain number of posts or something...i'm not sure exactly how it works. to be honest, i don't use it or pay attention to it as much as some others do. i think there is a thread somewhere that describes it all in detail, though. but, basically, the more green boxes someone has, the more "rep" they have.

the "rep power" thing indicates how many rep points someone will get if you give them rep points. i think mine is at 5 or something like that, so, if i give you rep, you will get 5 rep points. if someone with a rep power of 7 gives you rep, you will get 7 rep points, etc.

anyway, if you go to user "User CP" you will see something like the last 5 or so "rep points" you got.

for example, i gave you some for some other post a week or so ago...if you go to your user control panel, you'll see a link to the post i gave you rep for, you'll see that it was me who gave you the rep, and you will see a short comment i typed to you about the post.

the system makes you spread out rep points among different users, though. so, i tried to give you some more rep points for a post in this thread, but i couldn't because i have not given enough rep points to other people.

that happens to me a lot because i often don't think about giving out rep points, so i end up not being able to give them to the same person twice in a month.

in reality, it doesn't mean much, imho...but it can be fun...and sometimes it's a nice way to say "right on!" or "thanks!" or whatever without having to waste any actual forum posts to do it.

(also, i think you can give negative rep points..to sort of say "hey man, you are an idiot" ...though i have never done that.)
