Default looking for rifle & pistol range in SE PA

    Greetings,

I'm looking for a decent rifle range in southeast PA where I can shoot at least 100 yards. I've been using the public range at French Creek, but I don't find it a very pleasant experience. I don't mind paying a membership fee for something nice and not too crowded.

I'm also looking for a nice pistol range around the Philadelphia and suburban metro area. I have been going to Philadelphia Archery & Gun Club, but they don't have a parking lot and I always feel very uneasy walking through that area, especially lugging firearms and range bags. The range also gets very crowded.

Thanks in advance. Hopefully I can find some nice places nearby.

+1, i was just there. It's a bit of a hike but it's nice. Most likely will be giving them my membership dollars.

Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club. I haven't checked out the rifle range in a few months but the 100 rifle range should be opening soon. Next time I go shooting I'll check it out. Last I saw this past summer they had to finish the new baffles and build some shooting benches.

EDIT:: I forgot to add that they also have an indoor pistol range.

I appreciate these and further suggestions. I'll have to look into these options.

Are these places open to people who just want to pay for a day of range use (or through a range membership), or do they require club membership? I just don't have the time to take on any more social obligations right now, so I'm really looking for a place that will just let me go and shoot at will, without having to participate in any events or meetings.

Wicen's is a pay-for-the-one-day rifle range, hence it's a good deal for the "couple times a year" rifle shooter.

Most pistol ranges allow walk-in shooters for the day. Most rifle ranges don't.

    Lower Providence requires membership.

100 Yard range is officially open as of the last meeting.

It'll be more than twice a year, but certainly not very often. I estimate a range trip every 4-8 weeks, depending on available time. My best option is to pay per visit, unless I can make up the cost in 4-5 trips. In that case, I don't mind paying for a yearly membership to use the range whenever. I just don't want club obligations. Prefer to walk in, shoot, clean up & leave at my own pace-- maybe with a shooting buddy or two. Wicens sounds like such a place so far if I'm not mistaken. I'll have to call them.

It sounds like a public range may better be suited for your needs.

From my experience, most clubs have some sort of obligation... a meeting or two..etc.

Usually it is for the first year...sometimes the club requires an ongoing few hours of cleanup for a few years...or an additional $$ (usually nominal) to waive additional years of service to the club.
